Introduction – Welcome to our site.

When disaster occurs, for patients with cancer, how to develop self-caring ability is an equally important issue to enable patients to survive until the medical system is restored and they are able to get at least a minimum amount of medical care. On the other hand medical staff must be prepared to care for patients with cancer in shelters or hospitals even if they are not experts in the treatment of cancer. We consider, therefore, that it is necessary to clarify the patient with cancer care needs in disaster situations, study the strategies and system for patient with cancer care in disaster situations and develop a care package for patients with cancer based on these survey results. In this site we provide you the information you need. We hope this site helps you develop a greater understanding of preparing for disaster.

Activity Report Past activity report

February 16th, 2007 (2 locations in Hokkaido)

We interviewed 2 visiting-nurse stations in Sapporo, Hokkaido, about disaster preparedness and mutual support networks. The first visiting-nurse station was attached to a hospital, and the hospital disaster manual was used for disaster preparation. Plans to create a manual for people who use the station were being discussed at that time.

The second visiting-nurse station had a parent station that served as an umbrella home care organization for visiting-nurse stations throughout Hokkaido. In the event of a disaster, the parent station would coordinate the other visiting-nurse stations in order to provide an integrated response.

February 15th, 2007 (Aichi Prefecture)

We interviewed a visiting-nurse station in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, about disaster preparedness and mutual support networks. This station had appointed someone to be responsible for disaster response, and they were in the process of creating disaster manuals and other materials. They were also preparing to disseminate their work to other visiting-nurse stations in the future.
